Understanding Grades of Flooring

Engineered flooring grades refer to the wood’s appearance and natural characteristics. There are typically three grades. Some products are available in all three, others in one or two.

AB grade (also called Select or Prime) has the cleanest look, with minimal knots, uniform color, and fewer natural imperfections, making it ideal for modern, high-end designs.

ABC grade (also known as Natural grade) allows for more variation, including small knots, mineral streaks, and slight color differences, giving it a more organic and authentic wood appearance.

ABCD grade (Rustic or Character grade) features the most natural wood characteristics, including larger knots, color variation, and more visible grain patterns, creating a bold, rustic look.

The choice between these grades depends on the desired aesthetic, with AB offering a sleek look, ABC providing balance, and ABCD embracing natural charm.
